Montura / Saddle
These prints are inspired by saddlemaking and piteado embroidery. By reinterpreting the leatherworking process through a combination of relief, woodcut, dry pigment screenprint, screenprint, cochineal and quebracho pigments, and cotton thread, these works deconstruct the leather forms of a piteado (embroidered) saddle. In the Arciones (Stirrup Leather) series, the leather-inspired vertical forms are grounded by textiles, specifically caronas (saddle pads) featuring common patterns used in charrería, Mexico’s equestrian tradition and national sport.
